The Child Assault Prevention® (CAP) program is an internationally renowned primary prevention education program. Originally implemented in 1978, CAP is now in 22 states and 16 other countries and has been translated into 11 languages including American Sign Language. The central headquarters is the International Center for Assault Prevention (ICAP) in Sewell, NJ.

The CAP program curriculum is based on an empowerment philosophy which seeks to reduce children’s vulnerability to assault by increasing awareness that children have human rights. VAP utilizes a three-pronged approach to community prevention education: training of school personnel, parents, and children. Strategies taught include self assertion, peer support, effective communication and reporting skills. CAP seeks to integrate the best resources of a community in an effort to reduce a young person's vulnerability to verbal, physical and sexual assault.

The CAP program was reviewed in 2004 for 2nd grade students in the Clark County School District. Operation of the program was transitioned to The Rape Crisis Center in 2006. In 2007, through a state appropriation supported by then-Senator Dina Titus, CAP was expanded to include all elementary-age children.
