The Rape Crisis Center Volunteer/Advocate Program
The advocate/volunteer program includes a 50 hour mandatory advocacy training, which is comprised of over 15 speakers from agencies throughout Southern Nevada, and a training manual created by The Rape Crisis Center. Volunteers provide advocacy to victims of sexual violence and their loved ones after completing the training course. Trainings are offered twice a year.
Volunteers who choose to work directly with sexual assault victims are asked to volunteer 6 hours each week on-call, which means he/she can work from home. All you need is a cell phone and reliable transportation. During scheduled shifts, advocates receive calls on our 24-hour crisis hotline and respond to University Medical Center (UMC) to provide support, crisis intervention, and referrals to primary and secondary victims of sexual assault.
Volunteers may choose instead, after completing our 50 hour mandatory advocacy training, to volunteer 6 hours each week at our office assisting in hotline calls, follow-up of victims, making referrals and counseling appointments, entering data, attending community outreach events, conducting prevention education, and planning and assisting in fundraising activities. We are conveniently located on the West Charleston Campus of the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) and can be reached either by public transportation or automobile. Parking is available.
