The Rape Crisis Center welcomes energetic and committed people to work in the community as Outreach Workers and Community Speakers. Advocates must be 21 years of age or older, possess a reliable form of their own transportation, own a working cell phone, and have reliable child care (if applicable). Community Outreach Volunteers attend health fairs, community gatherings, and any type of community events where The Rape Crisis Center would provide information to the general population of our community. Speaker’s Bureau Volunteers are asked to speak to community groups about the work of The Rape Crisis Center and about sexual violence. Speaker’s Bureau Volunteers must to be comfortable speaking to middle school students, high school students, and all types of people in the community. Applicants must complete an extensive application process that includes a background check and interview with the Outreach Coordinator. Once approved, applicants must attend a 50 hour training course that focuses on sexual assault and related issues. We request that advocates commit to a minimum of six months volunteer service. Training sessions are in held throughout the year. Training Sessions meet Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings from 6:00P.M. – 9:00P.M. and Saturdays from 9:00A.M. – 1:00P.M. Volunteers are asked to commit to the training schedule as all classes are mandatory. In addition to the 50 hours of training, applicants must attend training course that focuses on what The Rape Crisis Center does how to respond while in a community setting. We request that advocates commit to a minimum of six months volunteer service.
